APPOINTMENT
Our client is currently expanding its chemistry capabilities to augment their strength in Chemistry and the Head of Analytical Chemistry is seen as a key appointment for the next phase in the Company?s evolution. Under the guidance of the Head of Chemistry, the Head of Analytical Chemistry will establish a Department to allow chemists to routinely analyse (in an open-access fashion) their samples. The Head of Analytical Chemistry will also put in place procedures to maintain equipment and minimise down-time, will carry out development and optimisation of purification methods and purify compounds originating from chemistry (both as singletons and library samples) as a service. This may be accomplished using a variety of methodologies gleaned from their experience to date and through importing known industry Best Practice. Additionally, over time, they will help to establish the equipment and internal know-how to analyse (bioanalytically) plasma samples.

PROFILE
·	Degree educated in analytical chemistry (BSc 2i minimum, or equivalent);
·	Minimum 5 years? relevant post-doctoral or industrial experience and ideally with exposure to working in a matrix-type organisation;
·	Candidates without a non-analytical qualification (e.g. synthetic/medicinal chemistry background) would also be considered if they have more than 3 years working full-time as an analytical chemist;
·	Evidence of ability to lead projects as a project manager with previous supervisory experience desirable;
·	Able to forge close working relationships with other departments, particularly Chemistry;
·	Significant experience of purifying small organic molecules as singletons and libraries of compounds, ideally in 96 (or higher)-well plate format;
·	Keen to work practically in a lab, setting up the Department from scratch and maintaining instrumentation once the Department is established;
·	Fluency in verbal and written English.

The research project aims at the development of computational schemes designed to treat molecular systems typified by strong non-dynamic electron correlation within the framework of density functional theory. Emphasis will be on the use of the ensemble approach within DFT, however an extension in the direction of density matrix functional theory will be considered as well. Specific goals of the project are: the development of fast orbital optimization algorithms, the calculation of response properties in strongly correlated electron systems, the development of a time-dependent formalism for calculating excited states. The computational schemes developed will be applied to various systems of practical importance ranging from organic biradicals and polyradicals to inorganic polynuclear compounds with complex magnetic behaviour. The project will benefit from a close cooperation with several theoretical groups located in the European Union and in the United States.
